Get your nails ready for the new year.

With only a few hours left in 2013, you have a lot of decisions to make. Will you go out or stay in? What will you wear? How will you do your hurr? And, most important, what will your nails look like for the first minutes of 2014? Think of all the pictures that are bound to be taken! You can't have the same nail art you wear every day. You need to spice it up. New year, new you, new nails!
We've teamed up with COVERGIRL for an easy tutorial that will have your nails looking ready for 2014 well before midnight. Once you're done (and dry), be sure to share your New Year's nails with us on Instagram using #covermoment. Check out the tutorial below and get painting!
STEP 1

For this manicure we used four COVERGIRL nail colors: Crystal Clear 105, Lasting Love 180, Snow Storm 110, and Black Diamond 325. First, apply a base coat of Crystal Clear to all of your nails, and then apply Lasting Love 180 to four fingers on each hand.

After your eight red fingers have dried, apply Snow Storm 110 to your thumbs. Let that dry as you muse over what you'll actually wear on your body tonight.

With a skinny nail-art brush and Black Diamond 325, paint 2014 on your red fingers. We decided to paint the numbers using dots (they look like fireworks, IMHO), but you can do 'em however you want.

Just remember, all that matters are the numbers 2, 0, 1, and 4.
STEP 4

Now comes the part that will make your manicure 2014-ready. Print out a nail-size picture on regular paper for your ~accent~ nail. We used Miley Cyrus as a reminder of the past year, and because she'll be performing at the NYC ball drop. The face/item/body/animal you print is up to you, but it does have to be small enough to fit on your thumb.
STEP 5

Dip the paper in rubbing alcohol and press the now wet image onto your nail (ink-side down) for 30 seconds. If the image isn't transferring, try diluting the rubbing alcohol with water.
STEP 6

Peel back the paper and voilà! Miley and her tongue are on your thumbs! If there is excess paper, you can remove it by dipping your finger in alcohol and gently rubbing the picture. Be careful, though, because if you get cray with the rubbing alcohol, you can say bye to your perfectly polished red nails.
STEP 7
Get your nails ready for the new year.

Apply another coat of Crystal Clear 105 to make the image pop and you (and Miley) are readaaay. If you catch her performance tonight, be sure to give her a thumbs up. It'll be #meta and a memorable way to ring in 2014.
